EMBER is a messaging app built in Abuja by RESCAIVA Digital Solutions. It does the things you expect — chats, groups, voice notes, photos, voice and video calls — and it is built for the conditions people here actually use a phone in.

Why we built it

Most messaging apps are designed somewhere with fast, cheap, reliable data, then shipped everywhere else unchanged. On Nigerian mobile data that shows: calls that will not connect behind carrier NAT, chat lists that spin instead of opening, apps that assume you are never offline and never running low on storage.

EMBER is built the other way round. It opens on cached content with no spinner, queues messages you send with no signal and delivers them when you are back, and keeps trying different network routes before it gives up on a call.

Where we are honest with you

EMBER is not yet end-to-end encrypted. Connections are encrypted in transit with TLS, and messages are stored on our servers, which means our servers can technically access message content. End-to-end encryption is on the roadmap and we will say so clearly when it ships. Until then, please do not use EMBER for anything you would not want stored on a server. This is set out in full in the Privacy Policy.
